Is anyone taking something besides gleevec for CML?

This doesn't answer your question but my husband has been on Gleevec for over 12 years now, never achieving a complete response so we are considering switching to Sprycel to hopefully lessen the side effects at least. February we will start doing the prelim tests to see if he is a candidate for Sprycel.

Good morning! When I was first diagnosed with CML the first medicine I was given was Gleevec. Oh my let me tell you this pill would give me cramps right away and all day. It was horrible! If I was driving had to park jump out of he car before the cramp would go up on my body. I mean it would begin on one toe once it was getting up to ankle my other foot began the same. Then both sides would shoot all the way to my head. This was horrible! After a year this medicine didn't changed the numbers at all. It always staying high. So my doctor changed it to SPRYCEL. What a blessing! I immediately felt the change. I have been on it for several years and let me say what Gleevec didn't do this one did it on my first visit once I began taking SPRYCEL. Not even the doctor couldn't believe this the numbers went all the way down. It has stayed there since day one so I'm officially on remission several years now. The only negative side of SPRYCEL is when I began taking it got me anemic really bad. So after I received five pints of iron I have been feeling well. Other than that I have been feeling well. I take my naps everyday because the chemo pill makes me sleepy. I don't fight this because it keeps you healthy. I do everything I used to nothing has changed. Take care of yourself.
