Transplant Donor Testing Time

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
West Windsor, NJ

How long after someone is tested to be a donor for a stem cell transplant do you get the results? It has been 6 weeks since my husband’s son was tested and his daughter is putting it off. It seems to me it will prolong things because it’s a long process. So far haven’t heard anything from the doctor.

Call the transplant team.
My brother & sister were tested. Push for an answer.

I am glad that they found a match. All the best going forward.

Met with doctor today, she talked with transplant team and they have a matched non related donor. Which is good news. They are waiting on approval from our insurance. So I guess his son wasn't a match.

Really? Agh. I thought it was taking too long. Now I'm wondering if his kids even got tested. I know his daughter didn't but his son went right away. Yes he needs to call. He has an appointment with his doctor (not the transplant doctor) on Thursday. It's also possible they are looking for a non related donor. Thanks

6 weeks seem much too long. If my memory is correct, we got our answer within 2 weeks.
