I Have Been Diagnosed With AML, Am Doing Chemo But Will Be 70 In November.

I do not think I could handle a bone marrow transplant. my question is can I get in remission, without doing this?

My experience is similar to Mary Lou’s. I was diagnosed at age 72 with AML flt 3 leukemia. I went into remission after my first round of chemo, vidaza and venetoclax. I then became a candidate for a BMT. I questioned my doctor as to whether or not I should have one since I was doing so well with the chemo. He told me that a BMT was my only hope for a cure. I had it 3 years ago and thank God and my doctors for making the transplant possible and successful. It was really not terrible. I had nausea, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, but the nurses were caring and had medications for these things. I am feeling really well and enjoy every day of my life.

Good morning, within the last 2 years I had AML. I was 71 at the time. I went in remission but I did go on and have a Bone Marrow Transplant. I cannot tell you what is best for you but I can honestly say the BMT was very easy for me and I'm glad I did it.
