I Have Been Diagnosed With AML, Am Doing Chemo But Will Be 70 In November.
I do not think I could handle a bone marrow transplant. my question is can I get in remission, without doing this?
It depends where your AML is staged, there are three phases low, moderate, and high risk. My AML was moderate level and through 2 months of chemo I went into remission. It was not guaranteed. The most curative remedy was a stem cell transplant. The stem cell transplant is worth it for AML, I had it done at age 63 and Iām now 66 and it saved my life. I had a allo donor 10/10 match at City of Hope in Duarte Ca.
My doctors are at the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA.
Thank all of you so much!! I have had MDS for 2 years and started oral chemo last January. The mutation ASXL1 has come into play, and my doctors want to avoid AML. A BMT is on the table. I am a very healthy (so they tell me) 73 year old. Your conversations have given my husband and me much hope tonight!
I had an allo at Memorial Sloan Kettering
Thank you for responding!!
Did you have an allogeneic transplant? Where was your treatment performed?
I Never See Anything About Aml. Am I The Only One On Here That Has It. Looking For Experience And Results. Thanks Gary
