First, know that there is hope. AML treatment has advanced significantly with many new treatment options available. Treatment needs to begin as soon as possible after diagnosis for the best chance of success. Your son's healthcare team will create a personalized treatment plan based on:

• His specific AML subtype
• His age and overall health
• Genetic factors and mutations
• Other individual health factors Several factors can indicate a more positive outlook, including:

• Lower white blood cell levels at diagnosis
• Certain chromosome changes
• Specific gene mutations (like NPM1 or CEBPA)
• Quick response to initial treatment

Your son's doctor can explain which treatment options are most appropriate, which may include targeted therapies, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or stem cell transplant. Make sure to discuss potential risks and benefits of each treatment option with the healthcare team.

I do not have AML but I do have CLL. What I discovered is that eating healthy and exercising does benefit my health both physically and mentally. I also found answers to my questions which helped with my fear of the unknown. If you can provide answer to questions that would be a big assistance. Celebrating Long Life (CLL)
