I was dx with CML in August.. not sure what to expect with this med( Dasatinib)
I take Dasatinib my hair is thinning but not falling out I have had it dyed without problems
Oh yes, thinning can happen. I had that too, I have a lot of hair, fine, wispy hair--doesn't take to being curly or styled well.. So thinning wasn't a problem as I had a bunch more. I do remember walking into my bathroom and noticing hair everywhere. Kind of like having a cat in your house. I did get a vacuum cleaner and "dusted" my bathroom. I use a hair dryer and it blew hair everywhere. I realize this isn't a big problem--it's a small one as I had plenty of hair on my head. I think I lost hair mostly from the initial treatments they had to do in the hospital for me. I believe it was a natural reaction to the sudden and fast lowering of my white blood cells and not so much the maintenance medication. I got it all back eventually while still taking my medicine. Just be kind to yourself, I mean it when I say your body is at war with your illness. Give it all the rest, good food, and exercise it needs to fight for you. When you are frustrated, crabby or ill at ease--go outside and take a good inhale of fresh air. Sometimes we forget some of the simplest things are so good for you.--jmb
Hi Kim, My side effects stayed in the realm of nausea, confusion/unclear thinking, fatigue, fatigue, fatigue! My hair thinned in the beginning but returned to normal after a few months. I wear my hair short so I don't grow it out. I have regular haircuts. I didn't have any growths on my skin--but I have very sensitive skin so I cut back on any makeup and just moisturized. I usually use products that are for sensitive skin as my skin was pretty sensitive to soaps and lotions and perfumes. If you are concerned make an appt. with a Dermatologist--it's better to seek answers early. I did notice petechia or small red dots on my chest before I was diagnosed and wondered what that was about. I have since read that could be a symptom--I'm not sure. My skin has always been over sensitive--I've had eczema since I was a baby. I like that you are working on being positive because you have every reason to be. Treatments now are pretty amazing it's much better now than even a dozen years ago. If you are scared--you have every right to be. I was, am, and will be to some extent. This is scary stuff. Just realize you are still here--so LIVE. Go do the stuff you enjoy when you feel up to it. I drug myself to work as that was the best thing for me to do. It got me among people I enjoy, helped me be constructive and doing what I love. It made me exercise as I lead classes, it made me help others as that is what I do for a living. Otherwise I think I would have been a lump hanging out at home. You can do this--stay positive, keep going! Fight CML, show it who is boss!--jmb
Do you mind sharing side effects. I am having an overgrowth of small brown moles on my body. hair thinning, not growing like normal.. trying to stay positive..
Brain fog found it's way into my world for sure. I initially had high doses of medication for my body to handle. So, some hair dropping out wasn't a surprise. When I got on my routine, hair wasn't an issue, but I had plenty of side effects.--jmb
