I have gone from feeling like someone punched me in the gut to forgetting about it and back again. The best advice I can give you is to live a healthy and positive life. Exercise faith. A strong faith and faith community will help you to be strong when you don’t feel like it.
I’ve put my faith in Christ and that has made all the difference for me.

What advice is helpful for someone newly diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia?

Getting a CML diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but taking small, manageable steps can help you regain a sense of control. Here's some guidance to get started:

Get Organized

Create a designated space for all your medical information. Keep doctor's visit summaries, pamphlets, and test results in one place so you can easily find what you need.

Educate Yourself

Seek multiple opinions and gather information from reliable sources. Read about CML, explore social media platforms for patient experiences, and discuss what you learn with your healthcare provider. Remember that not all information may apply directly to your situation.

Stay Connected With Your Care Team

Maintain constant communication with your leukemia team. Information and your health status can change quickly, so regular follow-ups are essential. Don't hesitate to ask questions about treatments, side effects, or new therapies.

Consider Your Treatment Options

Work closely with your oncologist to understand which treatments are best for you. This may include targeted therapies, and your doctor can help you navigate side effects, costs, and any barriers to sticking with your treatment plan.

Take Care of Your Mental Health

Living with CML can be stressful. Consider reaching out to your support system, seeing a therapist, or trying mindfulness techniques to help manage stress and anxiety.

Our health can benefit from both eating healthy and exercising. Do activities that benefit your physical and mental health. Our illness may cause a secondary health issue that will be a primary health issue. Therefore take care of your health because our illness is a long term affair.
