I tripped on a rug - fractured and dislocated my big toe. I have done everything the podiatrist has instructed and it has been almost 3 months and it still hasn't healed. Is this to be expected with CLL? Any clue as to how long it is gonna take to heal?

Hi Terri. My thought only is yes, CLL, absolutely hinders our healing. Even a small cut or a bruise takes longer than healthy person. Same with when we get colds, virus, bug if some sort…takes longer to recover. A month ago I had Mohs surgery on my lower leg & my surgeon kindly reminded me that it would take close to 2 months to heal over completely & to not get discouraged. Other things may play into healing as well… if one has anemia, poor diet, stress, sleep deprivation, platelets off, etc.

Those bad cells seem to be attracted to areas in our body which are not healthy? So we have to help our body by doing healthy habits.

Can CLL affect the healing of a fracture like your big toe injury?

CLL can potentially impact healing, though the search results don't specifically address fracture healing. Here's what might be affecting your recovery:

CLL weakens your immune system because abnormal white blood cells can't fight infections properly. This makes you more prone to infections, which could slow down healing if an infection develops.

Additionally, CLL can cause low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia), which affects blood clotting. While this is more about bleeding than healing speed, proper clotting is part of the healing process.

Some CLL treatments, particularly chemotherapy, can cause side effects that might impact overall healing. Targeted therapies work differently but can still affect your body's systems.

Since you've been following your podiatrist's instructions for 3 months without improvement, it's important to discuss this with both your podiatrist and your CLL doctor. They can check if:

* An infection is present
* Your blood counts are affecting healing
* Your CLL treatment might be playing a role
* Other factors are delaying recovery

Unfortunately, there's no standard timeline for fracture healing with CLL since it varies by individual. Your healthcare team can best assess your specific situation and adjust your treatment plan if needed.
