Are you experiencing low energy and weight gain after being on dasatinib for a year?
Fatigue is one of the most common challenges for people with leukemia, and it can be made worse by treatment. It's really important to bring both the fatigue and weight gain up with your oncologist, as they can check for things like anemia (low red blood cell count), which is a known contributor to exhaustion. There are a few things that can contribute to low energy and weight changes while on leukemia treatment:
- Anemia – Low red blood cells mean less oxygen moving through your body, leaving you feeling drained
- Poor appetite or nutrition – Treatment can affect how you eat, which impacts your energy levels
- Reduced physical activity – Less movement can actually make fatigue worse over time
- Fluid retention – Dasatinib is known to sometimes cause fluid buildup, which can contribute to weight gain

The most important step is to talk to your oncologist about these symptoms. They may adjust your treatment, run blood tests, or suggest ways to help manage both the fatigue and weight changes. You don't have to just push through it — these are real, manageable concerns worth addressing.

I remember when I was 72 and I had Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) but I have away been thin and active. Today I have CLL and medical makes me normal but I am focusing on my T2D and I eat healthy. Try to pace yourself to do a little every week. I do go outside at 6:30 to do 1 or 2 hours of yard work. I live in an oak tree forest on 5 acres so there is work all year. Then I visit the gym 3 times a week. I eat healthy which benefits my blood sugar. I hope you find your answer to a happier future.
