Experience Taking IMBRUVICA

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418

I will shortly be prescribed IIMBRUVICA 420 MG TABLETS for my CLL.

I would be interested in hearing from Team Members who have experience taking this medicine and how they were able to pay for it.

Thank you
JAMES KELLY

I've been on Imbruvica about four years. I drink sports drinks and tea. I had covid twice. First time lost sense of taste. Both times covid was a bad cold that left me very weak. I've had all my covid shots but the most recent in Oct. of 2023. (Had Covid May 2023) I make it to the health club 3-4 times a week, but summertime gardening leaves me with a lot of muscle and bone aches. Tylenol tends to help best if taken in anticipation of long day. I still don't have it all figured out some days just sitting to much or standing in a store can bring on the nighttime muscle and bone aches. Mentally the bike, treadmill and weights keep the depression very low.

I've been taking imbruvica for several years now. The only side effect I noticed was a tendency to dehydrate. Sports drinks easily took care of that. I think my body must've gotten used to it because I don't dehydrate anymore. As far as payment goes I have Medicare and Medicaid both. Together they take care of the financial end of things. My yearly deductible, after Medicare and Medicaid, is less than $10 for the imbruvica. Oh, and with imbruvica you're not supposed to have grapefruit. Not sure why.

I was dried out when on Imbruvica too. Cracked finger tips, sore gums, dry eyes and skin.

My oncologist's nurses got me hooked up with the Johnson and Johnson Foundation. The first year I had to pay a couple thousand deductible, but after that the nurses would send in an application every year and the J & J foundation got it to me for nothing. Nice.

Good luck.

I've been taking imbrubica for about six years now and it keeps my white blood cell count normal. The only side effect that I had to contend with was dehydration. Sports drinks, lots of them, took care of that. For some reason drinking water didn't help, it went straight through my system. My body seemed to adjust after a couple of months or so and dehydration is no longer a problem.

Hi James. I started Imbruvica several months ago and did a detailed posting of my first 7 days. I am dealing with a few side effects but I seem to be improving on the medicine and the lymph nodes on my head has clearly shrunk. I hope this helps! The muscle spasms have gotten worse and the last two nights have been terrible. I'm going to try taking some potassium and hydrating more.
