When I first saw him due to a low platelet count on a routine physical, my count was 91 and he referred to it as pre-leukemia .
In Dec of 2022 ( almost 2 yrs later) at my 3-month blood check, the count had dropped to 39.
I started oral chemo- Inqovi- the next week. He said it had advanced to CMML.
After a bone marrow biopsy, he said we “ need more people on our team” and contacted colleagues at UVA’s cancer center.
I now see a MDS specialist who teams with BMT specialist.

Does this help?

My oncologists haven't really stated it one way or the other. In reading materials, I've seen it both ways. I consider it a cancer since it is grouped with leukemia and a s like cancer.
