I saw my oncologist 2 weeks ago, after having iron infusions for the previous 2 weeks to that. I was confused by him telling me I was NOT anemic, but was iron deficient, thus the need for the Feraheme infusions. I still am very fatigued and haven't noticed any change since the infusions. My last infusion was May 26th. I am also trying to understand the connection, if there is any, to my CLL diagnosis, or if it is just a coincidence that I am iron deficient. Have a great weekend!!
Hi Soultime12!! Thank you so much for your response, advice, and link.I will definitely check out the article you sent. I see my PCP in 2 weeks, so I figured I would also ask her. She is very good at explaining things in a way that is very understandable and is also very kind and available. I have been seeing her for about 15 years or so, and we have a much deeper connection than I do with.oncologist. He said to get my blood checked again in 4 months before I see him again in Sept. but I don't want to wait that long to see if I need more iron infusions, so I am going to ask my PCP to check my iron levels, saturation, etc. and have her interface with oncologist if I seem to need infusions again in July. She is the one who picked up on my highWBC last July and sent me to oncologist after ruling out a myriad of infections that might explain the WBC. I saw him in August, he tested me for CML, but did not order a Flow Cytometry until January to check for CLL.I guess what all this is saying, is I feel more confident in my PCP to listen to me and act on it!! Take care!! :)
Hi Phyllis:) I was curious and did a little research in regards to your questions. Following is a link that may be helpful. I learned from it too, that yes, one can be iron deficient and not be anemic. It is also ones' red blood cells vs. the white blood cells/lymphocytes that is more the CLL. Maybe reach out to your oncologist again and mention that you haven't noticed any difference and if he has any more suggestions, etc.? Also, maybe try to eat more of the items mentioned in the article to help you? https://www.healthline.com/health/iron-deficien...
Have a great weekend as well:):):)
Great that you will be seeing your PCP in a couple of weeks and that she is very proactive and understanding. Hard to find these days:):) Anyways, she'll be able...like you said, to check your iron levels, etc at that time. Best to stay ahead of it as you know vs. waiting till Sept. Have a good rest of your day and let us know how everything goes with your PCP:):)
