What does my qRT-PCR result of 0.028 mean for my leukemia?
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing is one way doctors measure minimal residual disease (MRD) in leukemia. This test looks specifically for DNA markers of leukemia cells in your blood or bone marrow sample. PCR is extremely sensitive and can detect as little as one cancer cell among 100,000 to 1 million normal cells.
A positive MRD result (any number above 0) indicates that some leukemia cells were detected, while a negative result means no leukemia cells were found. Your doctor will use this result, along with other factors, to help guide treatment decisions and monitor how well your current treatment is working.
