My thought only....if you drink in excess or have to have it daily, then no, it will work against your entire immune system which is already compromised. If, you drink in moderation, then I feel it is absolutely ok to do so. Numerous other things can and are just as bad for us....being overweight, drinking soda's every day, a lot of sugar, anxiety, lack of sleep, and basically not taking care of oneself works against us as well....

My wife likes to share a big can of beer at dinner time. I would think the sugar and alcohol content would be a minor problem since I am type 2. This does not affect my health or blood sugar since I eat healthy and exercise. Over indulging in anything could be an issue?

Is it safe to drink alcohol with leukemia?

While moderate alcohol consumption isn't a known risk factor for developing leukemia, there are several important considerations if you have this condition. Your oncology team is best qualified to provide personalized advice about whether drinking is safe for your specific situation. Key things to know:

- Alcohol can interfere with chemotherapy treatments and decrease their effectiveness
- It may put extra stress on your liver since both alcohol and cancer drugs are processed there
- Alcohol affects your immune system, which is already impacted by leukemia
- If you choose to drink, moderate consumption means no more than 1 drink per day for women or 2 for men

The safest approach is to discuss alcohol use with your healthcare team before drinking, as they can evaluate your individual case and provide specific guidance based on your treatment plan and overall health status.
