Yes, shortness of breath (dyspnea) is common with leukemia, affecting about 1 in 3 people in early stages. This can range from mild breathlessness to feeling like you can't take a full breath. You might notice it during activities like walking or climbing stairs, or even while resting.

Common symptoms that may accompany breathing difficulties include:
• Weakness
• Chest tightness
• Faster heart rate
• Clammy skin The main cause is usually anemia, which occurs when leukemia cells in bone marrow prevent proper production of red blood cells. This reduces oxygen transport throughout your body.

It's important to tell your healthcare team about any breathing changes, especially if:
• Shortness of breath comes on suddenly
• You become breathless during easy tasks that didn't previously cause problems
• Symptoms last more than a month or worsen
• You develop a cough alongside breathing difficulties

My red blood cell count is normal from a blood test Monday & WBC count 8000.
We may have normal red blood cells but if those cells are pushed away by excess WBC then there is a problem of not getting enough oxygen to the body?

Robert what is your red blood count? I'm experiencing same and has been the same even before I was diagnosed. Red blood count for me is low. I just assumed that my oxygen isn't getting to my lungs fast enough or properly due to low red blood count.

Indeed it does. This was one of my first symptoms that I didn't recognize that was part of the whole big picture. And for me it led to panic attacks. If I couldn't breathe it would send me, and still does into a whirlwind.

I have not had a solid answer to tell me why this problem occurs? I do know that at the gym when I lift weight my breathing increases? When I move weights with my legs there is no problem with breathing. I would like to know what causes the breathing problem? I know the sinus do have excess white blood cells because the nose is where the body can contact bacteria or other illnesses entering the body. I think the lungs are another area where white blood cells gather to intercept bacteria entering the body? These cells may be crowding out red blood cells and causing loss of oxygen absorption? I did discover an article by University of California San Francisco that stem cells for making red blood cells have been located in the lungs? I know that low oxygen in the blood does explain low energy in the body?
