I do not think you have a plan or know what you are talking about because you are totally wrong. I had learned that CLL is a long term illness. I learned there is medication to control this illness. I have my medication and I am both happy and healthy. I plan to visit the gym tomorrow as my wife shops. I just reduced taking my medication to 50% and my blood test is normal. In the past 2 years I have learned all about my illness and the different medications. I do not have fear of the unknown since I know the answers. I think you have fear of the unknown. We have a choice of experimenting without future if we take medication or if we do not medicate. My choice has brought me happiness and health which I plan to share with others so they can have a better life. The first thing I learned is that eating healthy does benefit a person's mental and physical health and the same applies to exercising. I may be 73 but I get around like I am 40. My father is 95 and he is very active. I think if we pace ourselves we can have unexpected surprises that we do have a good future which can be for many years.

How can you manage depression when facing a leukemia diagnosis?

It's completely understandable to feel this way, and you're not alone in these feelings. Depression is a medical condition that can be treated, just like leukemia itself. While temporary sadness is normal, clinical depression doesn't have to be long-term or debilitating.

Treatment Options That Can Help:

* Therapy - Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), individual counseling, or group programs led by cancer survivors can make a real difference
* Medication - Antidepressants prescribed by your doctor can help manage symptoms
* Support groups - Connecting with others who understand what you're going through
* Couples or family counseling - If you're having trouble discussing your health with loved ones

Research shows that addressing depression can actually improve leukemia treatment outcomes and prognosis. Your oncology team can refer you to mental health providers, and many cancer centers have on-site therapy services.

Daily Strategies Members Find Helpful:

* Staying busy with enjoyable activities
* Maintaining social connections instead of isolating
* Prayer or spiritual support
* Meditation apps like Insight Timer
* Redirecting negative thoughts when they arise
* Focusing on gratitude for things like time with family

As a MyLeukemiaTeam member said, "Depression requires a constant attitude adjustment mentality." It takes practice, but you can fill the difficult moments with something positive.

Please talk to your healthcare team about how you're feeling - they can help you find the right support.
