Members opened up about experiencing depression after a CLL diagnosis, with many describing it as a normal response to the fear and uncertainty of living with leukemia. Several members shared practical strategies that helped them cope, including staying physically active through exercise and walking, eating healthier with fresh vegetables, focusing on things they can still do rather than dwelling on the diagnosis, and leaning on faith for strength and perspective. A recurring theme was the strong encouragement to seek medication if needed, with members emphasizing that depression is a medical condition just like any other and there is no shame in getting treatment that helps you function and enjoy life.

When I was diagnosed with cancer they put me on medication. I needed it and I am not ashamed to tell anyone that I have cancer and that I require medication. When I was diagnosed with depression they put me on medication. It helps, a LOT. I'm not ashamed of depression anymore than I am of cancer. It's a medical problem, perhaps a chemical imbalance, and it requires medication. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and if that help comes in the form of a prescription so be it.

Exactly Ajaya! I always say if you had asthma, would you take an inhaler to help you breathe? Of course, so if high blood pressure, depression, insomnia are the culprits, take some medicine so you can function well and enjoy the lives we all have ahead of us!

For me it is mind over matter. As long as I don't think about having cancer and I can do basically anything and 80 year old man should be able to do, then I'm good. CLL is just another thing to deal with, along with my CAD and CKD. I just keep going......... Stay positive, keep fighting and trust God to give you what you need to get through this part of life. πŸ™

Good morning. There is nothing wrong with taking medication if you need it for depression. I take medication every day in my life and I need it. It helps with my everything I don't know what I would do without it.

Thomas, try going to the gym 2-3 days a week and get out and walk every day. Focus on healthy eating with fresh veggies and salads every day. All of this may help your mood. If you still feel down, see your doctor and discuss your symptoms and see if he has any suggestions to ease your depression.
