I am CLL and Type 2 Diabetic (T2D) so my diet is very important. I think dropping sugars and other food items which are not healthy would be very important. Last year I had read that healthy eating and exercise is a benefit to our health. I do visit the gym 3 times a week and I had read that 150 minutes of exercise per week is great. I take medication to control my CLL and I am more focused on my T2D then CLL. I hope you manage your diet, take vitamins, and exercise to help improve your health. I am 73 but I get around like I am 40 because I had focussed in my health. This week is my father's 96 birthday and he gets around like he is 50.

What should you eat and avoid with your CLL diagnosis?

Foods to Include:

A balanced diet can help manage CLL symptoms and support your immune system. Focus on:

* Colorful fruits and vegetables - Aim for 5 servings daily in different colors. They provide fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The vitamin C in fruits helps your body absorb iron better
* Lean proteins - Choose seafood, poultry, eggs, beans, legumes, nuts, and tofu. These support muscle mass and immune function without excess saturated fat
* Whole grains - Options like 100% whole-wheat bread, brown rice, oatmeal, and quinoa provide fiber, B vitamins, and vitamin E
* Iron-rich foods - Lentils, beans, pumpkin seeds, and tomato products can help prevent iron deficiency, which worsens fatigue

Always wash raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating, as food safety is critical with CLL. Foods to Limit or Avoid:

* High-sugar foods and drinks - Added sugars cause energy crashes that worsen CLL-related fatigue
* Ultra-processed foods - These are often high in sugar, salt, and additives that may increase inflammation
* Certain raw foods - Avoid raw meat, runny eggs, raw seafood, and unpasteurized dairy due to infection risk with your compromised immune system
* Trans fats and excess sodium - Try to stay under 2,300 mg of sodium daily

Important Note: If you're taking BTK inhibitors, avoid grapefruit and Seville oranges, as they can affect medication levels.

Talk with your healthcare team about specific dietary needs based on your treatment plan. They can refer you to a registered dietitian for personalized guidance.
