Write down questions and get answers. Fear of the unknown is the worst for this medical issue. My doctor only told me "don't worry?" It took me months to find answers to my question on my own. I requested medication after 10 months because I did not want organ damage from those bad cells attacking my healthy body.

What can you expect at your first hematologist appointment if you suspect acute leukemia?
It's completely understandable to feel scared! That first appointment can feel overwhelming, but knowing what to expect can help ease some anxiety.
Your hematologist will likely start by discussing your symptoms and medical history. They'll want to understand what's been happening with your health and why leukemia is suspected.
If you haven't had recent blood work, they'll probably order blood tests. These help them see what's happening with your blood cells and determine if further testing is needed.
Here are some helpful tips for that first visit:
* Write down all your symptoms and questions beforehand - it's easy to forget things when you're nervous
* Bring a trusted friend or family member for support and to help remember what the doctor says
* Take notes or ask if you can record the conversation
* Request copies of any test results
* Be honest about your concerns and ask the doctor to explain things in plain language
The appointment itself is about gathering information and creating a plan. Your doctor is there to help guide you through this process, one step at a time.
