I live in rural Hawaii and at first always dealing with traveling doctors, always a different face. About a year ago was approved to see the same doctor on a neighboring Island. I thought I would get a more caring and attentive doctor. Nope didn't happen. Seems to not care one way or the other about my care.
Is this normal when dealing with CLL?

My doctor never told mean anything except to "not worry?" After a few years my medical people continue to rush my visits to less than a few minutes? I have joined other groups like "Cancer United" which will send you free booklets about CLL, medication , etc. This same group will even help pay for medical care or medication. It took me 8 months after being told I had CLL to learn my lesson and I requested medication to get my life back to normal. Today my blood tests are 100% normal. All medications come with possible ill affects but I had no problem even though some of the listed ill affects was scary? I read that eating healthy and exercising does benefit our health. I live in California but I plan to visit several cities in your state 9/27. Take care because CLL is a long term illness which can be controlled. Celebrating Long Life (CLL)
@A MyLeukemiaTeam Member Martinez, you mention you are in rural Hawaii. I am sadly unfamiliar with Hawaiian geography…. How feasible is it to consult a hematologist affiliated with a Medical University hospital? I am aware that travel between islands is not ideal, but it seems the larger hospital would recognize that, and perhaps they either offer satellite offices for routine care, or Tele-Medicine for routine care, reducing the times you have to travel to see them in person.
I see there are 2 teaching hospitals in Honolulu - Kuakini Medical Center, and The Queen’s Hospital. Give their Oncology/Hematology Depts a call and see what they can offer.

Not every doctor is the same. Some of my doctors are easy to chat with others are strictly business, but I think they all care about treating my health issues. The one exception in recent years caused me to change eye doctors.
My first oncologist was the type to give a quick, brotherly hug. After he passed away, my second oncologist was completely different, very professional, carefully considering each question, weighing his words. Totally different, but both interested in taking care of their patients.
I wish you had better options, more doctors available to take care of you. You deserve the best of care.

Im having the same problem with my new oncologist/ hematology doctor. I complained to my health plan and they said it was adequate care. But another member told me to get an advocate to help. So Im looking for that.
