Morning I split wood for an hour and I was soaking wet and outside it was 55 and cold. My body was tired from swinging an ax and sledgehammer and I rested by stacking the split wood. Tomorrow I will repeat this experience to improve my physical and mental health.

It's understandable to wonder if feeling unwell is a sign that the immunotherapy is doing its job. The short answer is: not necessarily, but it can be a sign that the immune system is being activated.

Immunotherapy works by stimulating the immune system to fight leukemia cells. Side effects often happen because the immune system is being "switched on," which can cause the body to react. Common side effects include:

- Fever
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Chills
- Body aches
- Headaches
- Skin reactions
- Changes in blood pressure However, feeling unwell doesn't always mean the treatment is working, and feeling well doesn't mean it isn't. Side effects and effectiveness don't always go hand in hand.

It's really important that your dad's medical team knows about any symptoms he's experiencing. Some side effects can become serious, so keeping the doctor in the loop helps them manage his comfort and safety throughout treatment.

Wishing your dad strength through this — and you too. It's not easy watching someone you love go through this. 💙
