My mom has severe headache every day. She is diagnosed with atypical chronic myeloid leukemia - aCML and was treated with azacitidine 6 cycles - with short-term effect. Now she is advised to receive Hydroxyurea but she denies to take it as she feels very bad after taking that pills.
How can headache and migraine be treated, please anybody knows any kind of medicine??
Thanks in advance
I've had migraines since I was in High School. My mom had them as did her dad and all three of my children get them. So, I've studied a lot about them and tried a lot of things. Most of the time I get the classic ones with a 30 minute eye distortion before the pain, nausea and diarrhea. If I catch it in time, often the last two issues don't strike. I've been given a lot of meds including having a doctor giving me 10cc of Demerol and an open prescription of Fierinol. The caffergot only made mine worse because one one thing it hyped my system up so much that I couldn't sleep at all and it intensified my pain.
I also have fibromyalgia and a doctor gave me Gabapentin for it. Wow! That stuff actually helps reduce the frequency and severity of migraines. It's an off label use for migraines. Look it up. It also helps with the cancer bone and neuropathy pain.
Here's another thing I suggest. There are many foods which can set off a migraine including chocolate, cheese, alcohol, especially red wine and high sulfur foods. I have to be careful about eating raw onions. They can set off a migraine.
Also, florescent lights and stress can set one off? Why? Because the florescent lights short out your B6. My guess is our new energy efficient lights do the same. So, I take a B complex or B6 with food daily, that helps and I watch what I eat. When I feel one coming on, I immediately take a benadryl which i assume shrinks my swollen vein, take two tylenol and put the flexible ice pack on the area and of course go hide out in my cool dark bedroom. Sometimes I take two benadryl with the two tylenol.
I hope you feel better. Good night. ๐
As a 30 year migraine sufferer, the first thing to do is identify her headaches. A neurologist is best suited for this since there are so many new meds on the market depending on the type of headache. Lying down in a dark, quiet, cool room can usually help, regardless. Heat or cold applied to her forehead &/or back of neck can help. ๐ค
I am on Gleevec and before being diagnosed with CML, I suffered 10-15 migraine days a month. My neurologist prescribed 100mg Ubrelvy. The clinical pharmacist told me I could take it, but at 50mg. Funny thing is, now I only get them near my period. That's maybe 3 days. Perseverance over cancer beats migraines! LOL!!!
This is crazy but try caffeine. I have migraines from Calquence for CLL and my nurse said caffeine is the only thing that seems to help and she's right. Hope it helps.
My doctor said take Tylenol, but Iโm on sprycel. Not sure how tgat May interact with ur moms treatment. Best of luck!
