I had the 1st autologous Bone Marrow transplant at Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania 10-14 87!!!! Greats Hospital on earth!! TY GOD!!!

I was told before my BM transplant that I could already be cured having been in remission from the treatment I had.
They had now way of knowing if I was cured but gave me some percentages.

With AML I was told that there was a 70% chance of it coming back without a transplant
If I had the transplant there was a 1 % chance of the cancer coming back.

Having a transplant there was a 60/40 chance that my heart, liver, kidneys could fail.

This was back in 1990 so these percentages may have changed, I was 26 having the transplant, I was in good health, didn't smoke, but I still had a hard time in the transplant unit with liver problems which was nearly fatal.

I went for transplant because it is potentially the only cure.

Not sure I shall present that question to my care team, my Doctor is telling me that I may not have to get one after all. But I will try and get you an answer.
