i was wondering if the amount of blasts found in a blood smear are about the same that are found in a bone marrow biopsy?

Usually bone marrow biopsies show the true picture as that is where blood originates (in bones). My peripheral blood showed 0% blasts but the bone marrow tests showed 1% blasts.

Hi JoAnn! My LDH was really high too, my platelets were 821 (high is 412) as I said my blasts were 1% in bone marrow. I believe 5% still makes him in chronic phase (vs accelerated or blast) there are many great meds out there for cml. Has he had bcr-abl test (which shows the mutation of two genes (9 and 22) and bcr-abl is positive in 90% of cml patients. Not sure if u do Facebook (I don’t so much) but there is a private group for cml patients and the responses I get in that group (which only cml patients access) may b very helpful to u. It’s private so u don’t see the feed on ur regular Facebook and fb friends won’t see ur posts. Let me see if I can forward u the link.

Cml, diagnosed the end of September 2023,started sprycel 100 mg early Oct and my blood was all within normal range within 3 weeks (they don’t do bcr-abl test again until ur on meds 3 months). Meds are strong and my good blood dipped very low 2 weeks ago and I came off meds for 7 days now normal again and back on meds. Test Tues to see where I am, if good numbers drop again, he will likely decrease dose. The immature white blood cells in my peripheral blood is 0-.02% which indicates meds working.

I thankfully have very few side effects. Mary

I have aml and just prior to treatment my blood blasts were at 60%. A month after vyxeos chemo my blood blasts were at zero and at 4.2% in my bone marrow biopsy, under 5% is technically remission but lower is better. I have a second biopsy next week on the other side so I can see if I'm ready for consolidation chemo before my bone marrow transplant. A week and a half after chemo my blasts found in the blood have been zero and have stayed that way.
