It depends on the persons age and condition as well as which genes are mutated.
The only cure I know of is a bone marrow transplant but not everyone is eligible.
I have received IV chemo, subcutaneous shots, blood and platelet transfusions and am currently on an oral chemo and oral targeted medication as well as shots to bring up my WBC count, etc.

My 78 y/o husband was diagnosed w secondary AML which had progressed from MDS in November '23. At that time, he was hospitalized for 40 days. His treatment has been 7 days of IV Vidaza every 28 days and Venetoclax daily. So far, he seemed to be doing well. Now he is very neutropenic so his Onc wants to hold off on the next Vidaza cycle until his WBC recovers. He has gotten transfusions for platelets and red blood for Hgb.

My dad did 7 days of azacitadine and 14 of ventoclax. He is 75 and just got diagnosed in March. There is more to come.
