Sorry to hear about your skin issues. They are common with CLL and do need to be checked. During my fist visit at UNC I was strongly urged to see a dermatologist so I made an appointment with the one my husband and sister see. It was explained we are more prone to skin cancer. First visit a biopsy was taken of suspicious site but came back okay. Went back in 6 months and now once a year. I do not get the rashes but I bruise very easily because of low platelets. Arnica Gel, not the cream, helps to reduce time for bruises to heal. I have a bruise that is one year old on my forearm. Arnica Gel did help to look better and the others disappear faster. So anyone out there reading this, go see a dermatologist if you haven't already. Best to get skin cancer screening anyway. Squamous cell does travel the body and that was what killed my father. Medicare does pay for skin screening. Take care everyone.
Great advice! I’ll start looking for one. Have a great day and thanks!!
I think your treatment was effective with attacking those bad cells. Those bad cells may have been in your skin which may have caused the bad tissue damage. I think when the chemicals and bad cells are gone the healing will begin. We are about the same age. I do many tasks outside like chain sawing, cutting and splitting wood. When I get a scratch or cut or bruise (flying heavy oak when splitting can do damage) in the past within a week I was healed. I had a scratch which happened in February and finally it looks like a scar after 7 months? Damage on my skin takes months versus a week to heal. I hope you get the care required to help your skin heal which your medical people should take care to handle versus not doing anything to help you?
Hi Debbi...absolutely...as Bevy mentioned, get an appointment with a Dermatologist. Oncologists just deal with our blood cancer and do not have a medical degree/training with skin cancer or anything to do with one's skin.
Bevy..with your skin cancer on your arms..is it squamous cell carcinoma? I've had 3 different areas that I have had the Mohs surgery done and highly recommend that route if that is an option for you. My dermatologist has me see him every 6 months for a complete body check. If I notice something abstract, I call and they fit me in right away to check it out.
Thanks for the reminder Debra. Yes, very important for all of us to get checked every 6 months or yearly. I've had 3 squamous cell carcinomas removed in the past few years. I see my dermatologist every 6 months for a complete body check. If I notice anything prior to that time, I call and they fit me right in.
