Im not giving up. But the shortness of breath along with the bone pain is sometimes unbearable, how do you handle things your friends can't seem to understand?
Could you get a walker with a seat. The Cadillac version is what we call it. That way you have the best of both worlds. You can get some exercise but also sit when needed. My friend also sits and pushes herself backwards
Ask your friends whether it’s better to use a wheelchair since you are weakened or falling and cracking open your head or breaking a hip or shoulder. Let them answer that question. In the meantime, use that wheelchair to help you remain as active as possible, which is good for your recovery AND mental health!
Listen to the doctors! Your friends and family advice are opinions based on zero knowledge of what YOU are going through. If you need naps everyday, then make time for them. if you need a walker or wheelchair to help you get through the day then use one. This is no different than an elderly person using a walker or some other device to deal with your issues. I had AML and have been in remission for 4 1/2 years now. I also have had a quad bypass [widow maker] a year before my cancer diagnosis . I've had to use a wheelchair myself just to get to the infusion center at the hospital. And that was just inside the hospital doors. I also have pretty bad neuropathy in my feet and legs so walking becomes an issue sometimes. I lean on my faith and GOD in my daily life and give thanks every day to him for what he has given me. God never puts more on your plate than what you can handle. So, in the end, you need to do what is right for you!
I think those treatments may have caused ill affects with your health? Everyone who has had those treatments with those chemo require a good time to recover. I think as your health and strength come back you can be more mobile? There are stretch exercises which are done sitting down. Look on You Tube for videos with seniors exercising. I learned about the stretch exercises months ago for my wife. I also learned about possible ill affects that even my doctors did not indentify when I asked for help? I am 73 and I pace myself and do not do too much when I visit the gym 3 times a week or do tasks at my property which is 5 acres. Last week I loaded and unloaded 1 cord of uncut wood in 4 trips. Next spring I will cut the wood to length and split the tree trunks with an ax and sledgehammer. I take medication for my CLL and I get around like I am 40. I plan to start jogging again. Last year I was running a mile in 9 1/2 minutes. My secret is eating healthy but I am a Type 2 Diabetic (T2D.) I hope your get yourself together as the ill affects decrease and think about pacing yourself to doing more each month?
Listen to your Doctor NOT your friends OK Mickie. When you need to use the wheelchair, use it. You are not giving up, you are being wise and putting yourself and your compromised health first. Is your doctor doing something for the shortness of breath and pain? Thinking he/she is. When you start feeling better, you can ween yourself slowly off the wheelchair usage. Do not listen nor take heed to what your friends/family are pushing you to do. Are they you??? Are they in your shoes??? Hell no...if they don't understand and Help you, then distance yourself from them...we all need compassion and understanding from those in our lives...if they are not capable of that (selfishness), then we do not need them in our lives period..
