This will seem odd, but I i was in prison when I started chemotherapy. As with prison life as it is, it afforded me ample opportunity to rest when my body was telling me to take it easy and walk instead of run. Tai Chi instead of heavy exercise was great.
And having a friend that was understanding and supportive when I was feeling down was a big help.
Music was my best medicine for the soul.... by far.
I did my last year in prison doing my infusion treatments, and was released about a week after that, doing one more year with Calquence. Been in remission since June of 2024.
I thought about this interesting question? Fear of the unknown can be a big mental problem? It took me 6 months to find the answers to my questions which my medical people failed to provide about CLL. I only was told to "not worry?" I found my answers and I requested medication to "control" those bad cells. After 2 years of taking medications I realized my health was normal. I discovered my medication is effective for 10 to 20 years or until the bad cells mutate and can not be controlled by the medication. I now know that Cancer United will mail booklets to explain each type of blood cancer so that people can understand their illness and plan a future versus fearing the unknown? I plan to answer questions to alleviate people fear and make those peoples life better from understanding their unknown. I hope people find their answers like I found mine and that their life can be both healthier and happier. Celebrating Long Life (CLL)

Dear Ajaya, I certainly consider my mental condition. I see a psychiatrist and am waiting to see a psychiatrist. I talk to a friend when I need to. Much love, Joan
