No, CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) does not evolve into CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia). These are two distinct types of leukemia that develop from different cells and are caused by different genetic changes.

CML develops from myeloid cells in the bone marrow and is typically caused by the Philadelphia chromosome mutation. CLL develops from lymphocytes (a different type of white blood cell).

However, CML can progress through its own phases if left untreated:

* Chronic phase (slow-growing)
* Accelerated phase (more aggressive)
* Blast phase or blast crisis (most aggressive)

In the blast phase, CML can resemble acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in about two-thirds of cases, or acute lymphoblastic leukemia in about one-third of cases. This isn't CML transforming into a completely different disease, but rather progressing to a more aggressive form.

With proper treatment using targeted therapies, the risk of progression has decreased significantly. Only about 1 to 1.5 percent of people with chronic phase CML being treated with targeted therapies progress to a more advanced stage each year.
