What are the newest medications approved for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)?

Several exciting developments have emerged recently for CML treatment. The newest medications include:

Asciminib (Scemblix) - Approved by the FDA in October 2024, this third-generation TKI can be used as a first-line treatment for newly diagnosed Ph-positive CML in the chronic phase. It works for people with or without the T315I mutation and can also be used if other TKIs haven't worked. It's typically taken once or twice daily without food.

Nilotinib (Danziten) - This newer formulation of nilotinib was FDA-approved in 2024. What makes it special is that it can be taken safely with food, unlike the original Tasigna formulation which requires fasting. This makes it more convenient for daily use.

Bosutinib (Bosulif) - The FDA recently expanded approval of this medication to include infants and children with CML, making it an important option for younger patients.

These advances mean there are now more TKI options available than ever before, giving you and your doctor more flexibility in finding the right treatment that fits your specific situation and lifestyle.
