That does sound like a very encouraging sign! When someone with leukemia no longer needs regular blood transfusions, it often suggests their body is doing a better job producing healthy blood cells on its own. Rising blood cell levels can indicate that treatment is working well. Here's why that matters:
- Red blood cell levels rising means less risk of anemia and fatigue
- Platelet counts improving means better clotting and lower bleeding risk
- White blood cell counts normalizing can signal that leukemia is responding to treatment
When a treatment plan is successful, blood counts typically return to a more normal range β which is exactly what this sounds like. That said, it's always worth confirming with his care team which specific levels are rising, as the type of blood cell matters. His doctor will be best placed to give the full picture β but six weeks without a transfusion is definitely worth celebrating! π

I think if a person's blood indicates all elements are good then this is wonderful. I just had my latest blood test and everything was 100% normal and my WBC count was 7,600. The medication I take is working and my blood tests indicate I am doing good. I hope the improvements continue and you can report the good news.
