First off, a brand new CML diagnosis plus a new medication β that's a lot to carry. It makes complete sense that things feel off right now, and you're definitely not alone in this.
Mood changes, stress, anxiety, and even depression are recognized experiences for people living with CML, particularly those on TKIs like Gleevec (imatinib). Research has found that factors linked to mood changes include:
- Living with a chronic condition like CML
- Being on TKI therapy for an extended period
- General stress and personal barriers
A MyLeukemiaTeam member shared a similar experience dealing with unexpected side effects after starting CML treatment, which goes to show these reactions are more common than people might think. It's really important to be open with your care team about what you're experiencing emotionally. They can help figure out whether it's the medication, the stress of a new diagnosis, or a combination of both β and point you toward support.
You don't have to just push through it. Getting mental health support can actually help you manage your CML better overall and stick with your treatment plan long term.

I thought I was changing but I realized I could be my old self if I had a routine like meals, going to the gym, property tasks, etc. I pace myself to do activities and I seem to not have time for emotional problems? I get my 8 hours of sleep and I am up at 5 AM. My wife limits me to 2 hours of doing property tasks and I enjoy relaxing all day long after my working up a good sweat.
