Relatives and friends are a good start with pets that need care with your absence. In June my wife took me on a t I week cruise to Mexico then Alaska out of San Francisco. We had relatives watch our 4 pups. Take care and don’t worry about your pup.

What a great question — and how thoughtful to plan ahead for your furry companion while you focus on your recovery! There are actually several resources that can help with pet care during a bone marrow transplant.

Here are some good places to start:

- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) — They offer financial assistance programs that can sometimes cover pet care costs during treatment
- Triage Cancer — A nonprofit offering practical resources for people navigating cancer treatment, including financial and logistical support
- CancerCare — Provides a resource guide that can help connect you with support services, which may include pet care assistance
- Local animal shelters or rescue organizations — Many have foster programs specifically for pets of people undergoing medical treatment
- The Pet Fund — Helps with costs related to pet care during owner illness

It's also worth asking your hospital's patient navigator or social worker — they often know of local programs that can help with pet fostering or care during your stay.
