Hi Dianna. It is truly as others have also stated…your own decision & choice. I’ve not & will not be injected with anything. Even prior to my CLL diagnosis 12 years ago, I did not. Pros & cons to everything in life that we medically take…up to ones self only to think about & decide.
Shortly after I was diagnosed, while trying to learn all I could about leukemia, I came across an article with the title “Infection Kills”. The bottom line was that CLL (which I have) rarely kills a patient directly. However, infections such as flu and pneumonia can kill people with CLL because CLL weakens the immune system.
I get vaccines to help my limping-along immune system as much as I can. But it is a personal choice everyone needs to make, preferably with input from their doctors.
I have had the pneumonia vaccines and each fall I get a flu vaccine as well. If I get sick I most likely will not be hospitalized.
IF we were all the same we would all drive around in a VW motor vehicle, eat and enjoy the same food, wear the same style of clothes, have similar houses and furniture and enjoy being entertained by the same things. BUT we are NOT all the same. We are similar but not the same and so Dianna3 our bodies differ, for example mine was magnificent but it is slowly deteriorating and indeed I am an old bloke now but different to some old blokes that are able to run, skip and play. I just moan about the politics in the world, the pollution, the youth of today and even the weather. And so to ask a Medical Doctor if YOU should have a vaccination that is similar, they will not be able to advise. You will only receive statistical advice and that will it be based upon an average or median. Personally as in me, I used to be categorised as very important (Military Key Personnel) (in the 70's) and so I had regular Flu vaccines. I was fit enough in those days but for many years (20?) since they are freely given to people in the UK I do NOT have any because they made me quite ill. Similar to Covid vaccines. I thought by not having them the UK Government would not allow me to go out the house and thus they were mandatory. I was wrong and so do NOT have any annual vaccines, just 8 weekly B12 injections and for me they are necessary. And so to sum up Dianna3, find a mirror, stand in front, smile ask yourself the question: Do I NEED a Flu or Pneumonia vaccine? or should I let my natural defence mechanism work unaided?
Great question — and it's really important for people with leukemia to stay on top of vaccinations, since leukemia and its treatments can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of serious infections.
That said, there's no single vaccine plan that fits everyone. The right vaccines for you depend on factors like:
